Pete Hegseth’s nomination to one of the most consequential roles in the world raises serious questions of qualifications: His most extensive professional experience is as a partisan TV host.
Further, the allegations against him are serious and concerning, and, in accordance with our values, the public deserves a full and transparent investigation before any nomination vote occurs.
Finally, we, our Women’s Committee, and our Veterans & Veteran Families Committee stand in support of our women warfighters and the invaluable contributions they make, including in combat roles. Hegseth’s self-proclaimed opposition to their having this equal opportunity is deeply concerning to us.
We applaud Senators Susan Collins (R-ME), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK) and for their courage to stand up to their own party and vote their consciences.
